The springbok is an antelope species native to South Africa and parts of southern Africa. It prefers to live in open grasslands and semi-desert landscapes. Its characteristic features are its light, sandy-colored coat, dark stripes along its sides, and its striking jumping behavior ("pronking"), in which the animals leap vertically into the air.

Springboks usually live in herds and are superbly adapted to arid habitats. They are among the best-known wild animals of southern Africa and are an important part of the local ecosystem.
