Information text: Striped gnu
The blue wildebeest, also known as the striped gnu, is a large antelope species from the savannas and grasslands of southern and eastern Africa. Its characteristic features include a powerful build, a dark mane, and the striking vertical stripes on its shoulders, which give the species its name.
Wildebeest live in large herds and travel vast distances in search of fresh grass. They are particularly well-known for the great migrations in southern Africa, during which thousands of animals reach new grazing areas together.
The animals feed mainly on grasses and play an important role in the ecosystem of the African savannas, as they contribute to vegetation dynamics and at the same time represent significant prey for large predators.
