The stone marten ( Martes foina ), also known as the house marten, is a medium-sized predator from the weasel family (Mustelidae). It is widespread in Europe and parts of Asia and prefers habitats such as forest edges, fields, settlements, and even urban areas.

The stone marten is characterized by its brown fur and the white, forked throat patch that extends to its chest. With a body length of up to 60 cm, including its bushy tail, it is a skilled climber and hunter. It feeds opportunistically on small animals, birds, fruit, and carrion.

The stone marten is known for its adaptability and is frequently found near human settlements. Due to its tendency to damage cables or insulation in cars and houses, it is sometimes perceived as a "problem animal." Nevertheless, it plays an important role in the ecosystem as a pest controller and scavenger.
